So much footie!! I’ve almost got us caught up with all of it now!

Group C:

Tuesday 21 June 2016: Ukraine 0 – 1 Poland

Man of the Match: Ruslan Rotan (Ukraine)

Poland are the team I keep intending to watch and missing. Many pundits are putting them in the top 5 performing squads of tournament so far. Both teams made good starts to make it an interesting first half. Neither team could hit the target, however, and the half ended scoreless. Poland made a good change at the half, when Kuba Błaszczykowski (HA! I spelled it right without copy and paste!) replaced Zieliński. That made the difference, as Kuba was the one to put the ball in the net in the 54th minute. The assist came from Milik. Ukraine tried to come back but it wasn’t working for them and after 4 minutes of added time, it was Poland who came out on top.

Tuesday 21 June 2016: Northern Ireland 0 – 1 Germany

Man of the Match: Mesut Ozil (Germany)

My two favorite German players in this tournament so far have both been Real Madrid men. Go figure. #ToniLive has been to Germany what Iniesta is to Spain. And Sami Khedira has been absolutely excellent. He’s former, but I still consider him ours. N. Ireland dominated for the first two minutes before Germany started really pushing forward. In the 30th minute, Müller played the ball to Gomez who put it in for his first goal of the tournament. The half ended with just the one goal. And in the second half, Germany continued to press. N. Ireland defended well, though, and the match ended without anymore goals.

Group D:

Tuesday 21 June 2016: Czech Republic 0 – 2 Turkey

Man of the Match: Burak Yilmaz (Turkey)

Turkey got off to a very good start, and Czech Republic continued to have problems. The first goal came in the 10th minute when Burak Yılmaz scored for Turkey. The best chances for the Czech Republic came when they attacked down the wings but they couldn’t get the ball into the net. With just a minute of added time, the first half ended with Turkey ahead 1-0. In the 52nd minute, Gökhan Gönül went down after nasty clash that left him with a cut on his eyebrow. In the 65th minute, Ozan Tufan scored Turkey’s second with the assist coming from Mehmet Topal. After 2 minutes of added time, that was it. Turkey walked away with the 2-0 win in a disappointing tournament for Czech Republic.

Tuesday 21 June 2016: Croatia 2 – 1 Spain

Man of the Match: Ivan Perisic (Croatia)

Okay, I’ve been super excited to see Morata playing well. He really seems to fit into this squad and I love it. And it was Morata that opened the scoring for Spain in the 9th minute. Fabregas played the ball across and Alvarito tapped it in. It was the 45th minute before Croatia equalized. Kalinić scored on a Perišić cross. The second half had Croatia putting some good pressure on the Spanish defense. But Spain were answering with some pressure of their own. In the 72nd minute, Silva went down in the box and the penalty was given. Ramos was the taker, but he put it entirely too close to the keeper. In the 87th minute, Perišić pulled Croatia ahead by striking the ball off a Kalinić assist. After 4 minutes of added time, Croatia pulled off the win to qualify for the next round.
