Zidane: “We’re going to have to fight hard and play well to get to the final”
by Javier Garcia (Yokohama)
“We know the importance of this competition and we want to try to win it”, he said.
Zidane analyzed the semi-final of the Club World Cup against Club America. Faced with a big media presence at the Yokohama International Stadium, the Madrid coach said: “We know the importance of this competition and we want to compete and try to win it. We are in very good shape. The other day we got a little tired after the trip, but now we are ready for the game tomorrow. We will have to fight and play well to get to the final. I am confident and the players too”.
“We had a good welcome from the fans. Being so far away we cannot always share things with these fans. They’ve been three important days for Japanese fans and the players appreciate the support”.
“Tomorrow Ramos will not play. It’s nothing but he’s suffering a bit after the trip. He’s a bit tired and he’s a bit overloaded. He will not play tomorrow and we will see for Sunday”.
Type of match
“We are going to have a complicated and difficult match. I do not know who will have the ball, we’ll see tomorrow. Before a match is always even. We will not think about other things. Every game has to be played and fought for. We will problems just like them”.
The other semi-final
“We are not looking at what will happen in the other game. We are thinking about our match and we’ll watch the other if we reach the final”.
“We know the opponent and we do not need months to find out about the opponent. We talked a little about that over the last three day and tomorrow we will talk in a little more details. Now we have to have a great game. It is true what they say, that you do not win just because of the shirt, I think the same.
“When we played in the Cup against Cultural it was a dream game for them. Maybe it’s the only chance they’ll have in their lives to play against Real Madrid. What we have to do in these situations is to put in the necessary intensity to counter their motivation. We know it’s an important match for them but it’s also important for us”.
“I know him by name, but not personally. He is a good coach and experienced. We know that Mexican football has talented players that can cause a team problems. We expect a tough match tomorrow”.
“The trickiest part is getting settled after the jet lag and the journey. We needed two or three days to adjust. Now we have a new and different competition, but it’s important. Being Real Madrid we always want the same thing: to try to win everything that is in front of us. Tomorrow we have a semi-final that will give us the chance to play in the final”.
“You can win 35 games and then lose the 36th and you’re in trouble. We are focused on what we have to do tomorrow. You can win 45 or 50 matches and in the next one you have to do the same and win again. Tomorrow is an important match and gives us the opportunity to get in to the final. We want to win and we will try to do everything we can to win the competition”.
Pressure as the favourite
“I do not think we’re favourites. We’re going to have to play a game that…we’ll have to be careful. A lot of people may think that we will win easily. We are going to play against a very good opponent that can cause us problems. The game is not won and that’s what I’m going to tell my team”.
“Tomorrow you will see the line-up. We are ready to play, only Sergio is out. If he could, he would play. We are ready for tomorrow and I will put the best team possible out. We have a lot of options but the idea is to put out the best team”.
“His motivation is tremendous. He wants to win in a friendly and in the match that we have at the end of training. I’m not worried about his motivation. Any other player could come along and I don’t think that he will ever achieve what Cristiano has done. Winning the Ballon d’Or four times is not easy, it’s unbelievable. He could win the Ballon d’Or again”.
