How about that game the other day? We sure don’t do anything easy do we? Sigh.
But we’re through and that’s the important thing AND we’ve set a Spanish record by going 40 games undefeated. Barca held the record with 39 games, achieved last year. In football overall, we are now tied at 40 with Nottingham Forest (1978). If we are lucky, we can keep going and beat AC Milan’s record of 42 set in 1991-1992. Fingers crossed!
The team held a recovery session today. James and Isco came outside today working separately from the squad. Pepe & Gareth continue their recoveries. (Video)
Gareth gifted us some recovery thigh work. Yep, those thighs look just fine to me.
And we meet Sevilla (again) on Sunday in La Liga.
Copa Del Rey
Next up, we face Celta in the Copa Del Rey. The first leg will be played at home on January 18th and the return leg at Celta on January 25th. Bond Villain had something to say about the draw.
“They will be two fantastic games for the fans and small details will make the difference”, he added.
Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, discussed the outcome of the draw for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, which saw the Whites’ paired with Celta: “It’s going to be a case of two games in which small details will make the difference. We need to play well and get a good result at home. The second leg comes the following week, against a team who play some great football and are particularly dangerous at home. They’re going to be two fantastic games for the fans, and emotions will be running high, which is what people want, it really makes for a thrilling occasion”.
“We played the tie without Cristiano or Bale and once again we’ve demonstrated the potential this squad has. The team reacted very well in what was a very demanding game, Sevilla played a great match and we have to credit them for that. We had the character and competitive edge at the key moments when they pushed us, drawing on the support from their fans. We’re really happy because the team always dig deep to fight to the end and ultimately we managed to get the draw”.
40-match unbeaten run
“This undefeated run keeps going and I hope it continues for many more games. It’s a result of a lot of talent and competitive spirit. It’s that winning mentality that means you never say something is over. We’re playing with a badge on our chests which forces us to give our all until the final moment and fortunately that is reaping its rewards”.
And Keylor & Kiko got some love for their part in the 40 match record.
So onward to Sunday!
