Zidane: “The cup is important and we’ll not throw anything away”
by Alberto Navarro

“We know we have a very nice game to play and the good news is that we can change what happened in the first-leg”, he added.

Zinedine Zidane appeared in the press room at Real Madrid City the day before the game against Celta. The White’s coach analysed the quarter-final cup match in Balaídos: “We know the difficulty of the game after losing the first-leg, but we’ll not change anything. We know we have to score and that it’s a match we’ll look to qualify from. The good thing is that tomorrow we can change what happened in the first-leg. We know we have a very nice game to play and it will be difficult”.

“We like these kinds of matches and from time to time we like to have the opportunity to come back. We’re going to give everything and we’ll not throw it away at all. It is another competition. We’ll not change anything due the injuries. Others will play and they’ll try to do well. I am sure they’ll do well. We have to score and play our game. We’ll see how we manage the game”.

Failure in case of elimination?
“I do not think it’ll be our biggest failure if we don’t get through, but I’m not thinking about that. I’m only thinking about playing our game. I was sad on Saturday because it’s not nice to see an injured and sad player. It affects me for a day. We had one day to recover, another to work and now we’re thinking about another competition”.

“I don’t regret anything. We play a lot of games, train less and recover more. It is what it is and we can’t change anything. If you play and you don’t train you’d have more injuries. We will continue working how we have been doing and move on. I said at the end of the game that I was worried, especially because I don’t like seeing an injured and sad player. Today everyone is here and we’ll count on everyone as we always do. This is a group. Tomorrow is an opportunity for those who don’t play as much”.

The fans at the Bernabéu
“We work and we want to get the most for ourselves and for the fans who come to help us. In this stadium everyone has been whistled at and that will not change. All I’m saying is that we need our fans. That’s clear”.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries lately, but I am responsible for all that. Everyone here is doing their best to get the best out of the players. I would like to have everyone available obviously, but we can’t do anything about it. During the season it’s normal for players to pick up injuries. Physically we’re in good shape and we will continue working this way”.

“He’s got a problem with the other leg, a strain. It’s not an injury, but when you have something on one side you can always get the same on the other side. I said that he’d be with us on Monday but in the end he won’t be. He also wanted to be with us and he’s not happy. I hope it’s not serious because it’s only a strain”.

Changing room
“When there are injuries you worry as you do when you lose a game, but I’m not worried. We’ll all continue to do the same thing and the atmosphere in the changing room is good. We know we have a very nice game to play and it will be difficult. We’re really looking forward to it”.

“Tomorrow he’s going to be with us because after his long injury, once you get better, the requirement of training sometimes bother you a bit. But it’s normal after 5 or 6 months out. He wants to play, he’s there, but then his body sometimes tells him to stop a little. Tomorrow he’ll be with us and I hope all of this is over for him soon”.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s form
“If he’s fit, he’ll play. It was a knock and something bothered him, but he’s okay. We’re only thinking about tomorrow’s game”.

“He will be with us. I will count on everyone who is here”.
