Zidane: “We win and lose together and that’s how it’ll be until the end”
by Alberto Navarro

“I expect a difficult game against a team like Las Palmas, they know how to play well in possession”, said the Real Madrid coach.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in the press room at Real Madrid City the day before the match against Las Palmas (Wednesday, 9:30pm CET). The Whites coach analysed the match to be played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium: “In Las Palmas we had a great game and they equalised at the end. Technically they know how to play well in possession, especially in midfield, we’ll try to not let them play in our half. They’ve got a lot of quality”.

“We win and lose together and that’s how it’ll be until the end. We have a match every three days and we know the importance of each one. We’re prepared for it. You always need more time to recover, but it is what it is and we have to accept it. Tomorrow we’re going to play again and we’re prepared, apart from the injured players”.

Conceding goals at the beginning of the halves
“We’re working on putting that right. We want it to happen as little as possible, although football is like that, you can work on things but you never know if you’re going to find a definitive solution because you’re always up against an opponent who’ll have their say. There are things in football that no matter how hard you work on, you can’t avoid them, like when someone scores against you from 35 yards”.

“Until the beginning of January we hadn’t lost a game, but in a season you’ll have bad times. We deal with pressure every day, but the opponents make things difficult for you and sometimes you’re not 100%, but that’s part of football. We have to do everything at 100% and with 100% concentration”.

Refereeing decisions
“I don’t get into their decisions and my players also respect what they do. I have a great changing room in that regard, they only think about working hard and doing things right. I’m very proud of my players because they respect the referees a lot and everything that they do. I’m with my players until the end”.

Morata and Isco on the bench against Villarreal
“It’s just players joking, that’s it. Did you see how they went out on to the field? I don’t think you can say anything else about it. We’ve got 24 players in the squad and I have to choose. That’s one of the hard things about being a coach. You can play a player four games in a row and if he’s sub in the next one, he’ll be annoyed. It’s great for me that everyone wants to play”.

“It’s impossible to please everyone and I want to show my team that everyone is important. I talk to the player to tell him when he will play and when he won’t. We’ve got a great team and we’re going to need them all. It’s always important to talk to the player and tell him things as clearly as possible. In spite of everything, the ones who don’t play will never be satisfied”.

Respect
“Sometimes I upset them, but I respect everyone and everyone can have their opinion. What matters most to me are my players, they are respectful and professional. Everyone can have a say and they can’t be prevented from speaking. What we do, we do out on the field. We want to entertain the fans who come to see Real Madrid and we want to do our best. It’s always been like this: a professional and respectful club”.

Changes in Valencia
“A coach can make mistakes, even doing what I did, we didn’t do so badly in Valencia in possession but out of possession we weren’t so good. Sometimes you can’t help it and you have to think about and work on the next game. I don’t like going two goals behind because I prefer to go in front. In Villarreal we turned the match around with the changes we made and because they all did very well”.

Keylor Navas
“He has my full confidence. There’ll always be criticism and pressure is inevitable. We have to focus on our work and give all our players our full confidence from here until the end of the season. I have full confidence in them”.

Benzema
“He’ll play when I think that it’s right. I make the decisions and tomorrow we’ll see how we’re going to play. For me they’re all important and we’re going to need all the players until the end”.

Praise for Jesé
“I hope he does well, but starting on Thursday. I like him a lot as a player and a person. He’s got a lot of quality and a lot of potential. It didn’t go how he wanted at PSG and he’s not been able to show his talent. I hope he gets back to the level he was playing at before”.
