Training, The Birthday Boy, Poor, Poor Cristiano & More

30 Mar

Lots going on today! Sergio’s birthday, returning internationals and one very unfortunate stature after the jump.

The first team joined by Castilla’s Enzo and returnees Marcelo, Sese, Casemiro, Mateo, Asensio, Morata and G-Money took part in the session today. Dani trained indoors. Cris & Pepe were given the day off (probably to recover from that statue, but more on that later). Keylor had just gotten back to Madrid so he didn’t take part. James still hasn’t made it back to Madrid.

Sese’s Birthday

The football and basketball teams gathered today to present the sponsorship deal with Telefonica, who have become Real Madrid’s official “connecting” partner for the rest of this season and next.

During the presentation, Sergio was presented with a cake and personalized basketball and football shirts for his 31st birthday.

Isco: “We’ve got the team to win LaLiga and the Champions League”
by Alberto Navarro

“We’ve got a tough but exciting fixture list ahead” said the Whites’ midfielder.

Isco has appeared as the star of a publicity event and he took the chance to discuss Real Madrid’s current position: “We’re in a pretty good place for the season, with the chance to win it all. We’re training well and hoping we don’t pick up any injuries. I can tell the team are really focussed”.

“We’re used to playing matches against tough opposition, and knowing what we’re playing for, we won’t be lacking any incentive. Our motivation levels are sky-high and we’re hungry to add more titles to the club’s trophy cabinet. We’re confident we’ll be able to bring the fans a lot more joy”.

Difficult fixtures at the Bernabéu
“We’ve got a tough but exciting fixture list ahead. We believe we can make the fans happy at home – a lot of the difficult games we’ve got will be played at the Bernabéu”.

LaLiga and the Champions League
“LaLiga and the Champions League are incredible titles, although I’ve never won the league with Real Madrid. We’ve got the team to win them both”.

“Anything which helps to improve football is a good thing, providing it’s done quickly and we’re not standing around too long waiting for a decision”.

This Guy Can’t Catch A Break (Well, Statue-wise)

Cris was honored in his home island of Madeira when the airport was renamed for him.

A lovely tribute to a native son, right? Definitely! But lord almighty, the way he was immortalized in bronze is a nightmare.

Feast (or on second thought, don’t) your eyes on that masterpiece. Let’s look a little closer, shall we?

And even closer…

Wow. Just wow. It looks like the sculptor who did Scary Lucy was commissioned, FFS! Poor Cris. Was the sculptor a secret cule or something?!

This isn’t the first time that he’s had a hideous statue erected in his honor. Remember when this one was unveiled in Funchal?

Looks nothing like him, but still better than the airport one by a country mile.  They got him right on the actual airport sign but for some reason, they are not able to capture the magic of Crispy in metal.

Why God Why? (Getty)

Cheer up Cris! Third time has gotta be the charm, right? ::shudder::
