Zidane: “We want to continue this good dynamic”

“Valencia are defending brilliantly and are really organised”, added the Real Madrid coach.

Zinedine Zidane spoke to the press at Real Madrid City the day before the game against Valencia (Sunday 10.15pm CEST). The Whites boss spoke about the second LaLiga fixture, which will be played at Santiago Bernabéu: “We want to continue this good dynamic. Valencia are playing well, defending brilliantly. We know it will be hard but we’re ready to take it to any rival”.

“We want to keep on with what we are doing now, physically. It’s going to be a very demanding and long season and there will be times when we are going to weaker physically than other teams that we are playing better than now. We’re trying to maintain the level we have now and keep growing. That depends not only on the physical aspects but also on our attitude. We’re doing well, but that can slip anytime. I want the highest levels of concentration at all levels from each player.”.

International break
“I’m not thinking about losing players due to injuries sustained with the national sides. I am hoping that it all goes well, there are no injuries and that everyone returns fresh”.

Varane
“He wants to play, wants to wear this jersey, but he has picked something up and we cannot risk him. We’re looking at it but tomorrow would be a risk. I don’t want to risk things, given that Sergio Ramos and Vallejo are injured, we cannot risk this player, that is important for us. He is strong, really physical. The injury came in the first leg at Camp Nou and since then, 15 days have passed. He has trained, he has had rest and for us it is better not to force him but to try to solve his problem”.

“We’ll make the most of the break to focus on recovery. He is better but from time to time he has some minor niggles. I think it’s the right side that is giving him problems. He could play tomorrow but we do not want to risk it and it is a more serious injury. We are coping with all this and trying to make him stay here to recover the next few days. The health of the player is the most vital thing.”

Cristiano Ronaldo
“Money is not my issue, It is between the player and the club. It has nothing to do with me. Cristiano is here and going nowhere. This is his club, his team, his city and he loves his life here. I am under no illusion”.

Mentality
“We are not the favourites and we know it. The nice thing about football is that you can win a lot of things but it does not mean that the next game is in the bag. You have to show that you want to win and keep up the good work. If you lack this mentality you could lose but it is not always the case. We know that titles are won day by day and tomorrow we want to play a good match. ”

Reinforcements in defence and attack?
“We have four centre-halves and we do not need more. I do not think such injuries will happen again. Both Casemiro and Marcos Llorente can play there. Tomorrow let’s see what happens”.

“I don’t need more players, look at the squad we have. We are ready. I’ll be counting on Mayoral and will do throughout the year. He has to learn and be ready for when his opportunity comes up, which it will. We’ll give him a shot when the moment is right”.

Benzema not being called up for France
“i don’t have to answer that question: that is for their coach to answer. You all know my opinion on Benzema, He’s one of the best forwards in the world. The ban he had is ancient history and I won’t say anything more about it. He is an exceptional player and shows it in every single game”.
