Zidane: “It’s a stadium that simply oozes Champions League and winning here represents a challenge for us”

“We come here on the back of a win and are ready for what’s a key game”, stated the Whites’ coach from the media room at the Signal Iduna Park.

Zinedine Zidane took to the media room at the Signal Iduna Park on the eve of his side’s clash against Borussia Dortmund. The Real Madrid coach had the following to say about the defending European champions’ first away game of this Champions League campaign: “We’re in good shape. We come here on the back of a win and I’m pleased to once again be involved in a Champions League game at what’s a fine stadium. This is our last training session and we’re ready for tomorrow’s game. This is a stadium that simply oozes Champions League and winning here represents a challenge for us”.

“Whichever ground you play at it’s always tough. We’ve never won here and it’s a challenge for us, because we always go out to try and win. We want to play some good football and I want to see a good game. Every three days you have to prove your worth”.

“That’s the pressure we’re under, but it doesn’t mean anything because we have to show what we’re worth in every single game. We want to try and give our all and progress as far as we can. We’re in the group stage and once we qualify for the next stage, we’ll have to see what happens. Tomorrow’s is an important game and we want to win it”.

Praise for Casemiro
“He’s a key player and he offers us balance in both defence and attack. He intercepts a lot of passes and does the same job that (Claude) Makélélé did back in the day at this club or (Didier) Deschamps did for France. The way he’s performing isn’t a surprise to any of us. He’s confident and is getting better by the day. He always gives his all out on the pitch”.

“He’s here with us and that means to say that he’s fine. We know just how important he is to this team. We’ve got our final session now and we’ll see how he gets on”.

“The most important thing is to create the chances and we’re doing that, but we can’t be happy after having only scored twice in Vitoria after carving out so many chances. I believe in the players that I’ve got and tomorrow we’ve got the chance to change all of that. Every three days we’ve got to go out and show that we like scoring goals, and sometimes things don’t go to plan, but we’ll continue to work hard and show our desire. This is a good setting in which for us to win tomorrow”.

Lack of confidence
“I don’t think we’re lacking in confidence because we believe in what we do. Whilst it’s true that there may always be question marks if you look in from the outside, but that’s what we have to deal with every three days, that’s the tricky part. Every season and every game will be more difficult and if we don’t perform to a high standard, things will get tough for us”.

Carvajal’s game time
“I’m not concerned and we’ve got Achraf and Nacho who can both operate in that role. We’re at the start of the season and Dani is a player that recovers quickly after games. It’s important to follow a healthy lifestyle when you know that you’ve got games every three days, plus he’s a young lad”.

Affording the opposition many chances
“It’s not something that worries me because your opponents are there to pose you problems. What I’m concerned about is trying to play well and producing good football. If you play fine football, you’ll create chances, but the opposition are there to make your life difficult. We have to try and nullify that. LaLiga is the toughest league in the world and at times the most difficult thing is to maintain high standards throughout the whole season”.

“They’re all the same, both in Spain and in European competitions. They just try to do their job and I’m not here to talk about referees. They’ve got a tough task on their hands and I’m just focused on my team and tomorrow’s game”.

Carvajal: “Dortmund will demand the utmost of us and we’ll need to perform to our best”
by Alberto Navarro (Dortmund)

“We’re in confident mood and hope to return to Madrid with the three points”, declared the Whites’ defender.

Dani Carvajal spoke to the media with just over 24 hours to go before Real Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund (Tuesday, 8:45pm CEST), with the Real Madrid defender offering his thoughts on the team’s second Champions League group stage fixture: “I’ve never managed to win a game here against this really competitive side. Dortmund will demand the utmost of us and we’ll need to perform to our best if we’re to take the three points. We come here knowing that it’s an important game because we can take a big step towards qualifying for the last 16”.

“It’s a special, important game and one that we all want to be involved in. This is a great setting and you don’t need any motivating for the game. The team will stand up and be counted and we’re in good shape. We’ve slipped up because we haven’t been clinical enough, not for any other reason. The important thing is to keep on creating the chances because they’ll eventually go in. The team is confident and really excited. We’re all pulling in the same direction and we offer each other lots of encouragement. We’ve all had chances to score and not put them away. We need time to perform to our best and there are no question marks within the camp.

Fitness levels
“I’m playing a lot but I’m in perfect shape, am raring to go and am fitter than ever. You can pick up an injury at any given time and last year, when we rotated the team a lot, I got injured in the Champions League semi-final. Zidane is very cautious and when you’re in the slightest bit of pain he leaves you out. I’m ready to give 200%”.

“Nobody has any doubts about Cristiano Ronaldo. I’m lucky enough to be able to enjoy watching him in every training session and it’s a real spectacle to see him score goals and lead by example. Whenever he goes a month without scoring he then shuts everyone up by going on to get a lot of goals”.

Lack of competition
“Achraf is a lad who picks things up very quickly and there’s clearly a reason why the gaffer has decided to bring him here. He’ll be a great player, but competition doesn’t make me a better player. I don’t need competition from anybody, I myself am my best competition”.

Handing the opposition a lot of chances
“I don’t know why this is the case, if I knew, I’d tell the gaffer. It’s something that we’ve got to correct and it’s a blot on our copybook, but we’re still at the start of the season and we’ll tighten up at the back and the points will be easier to come by if we stop conceding goals”.

Maximilian Philip
“He’s performing really well and is a great player, the whole Borussia Dortmund squad is full of top players. Let’s hope that he has an off day tomorrow”.

Casemiro: “The Dortmund game will be demanding but we’re ready”

“With the threat we pose we can do a lot of damage”, said Nacho in an interview for Codere.

Casemiro and Nacho spoke in two interviews for Codere about the match that Real Madrid will play against Borussia (Tuesday, 8:45pm CEST). The Brazilian said: “Playing in Dortmund is special because that’s where it all started for me. The crowd will get on top and it’s difficult to play there. They have a good team, but I think we are prepared to have a good game. It’ll be demanding”.

“I like to work a lot and sometimes too much. I know my job is not scoring goals but it’s going well and that’s good for me and the team. The fans and the opponents don’t really imagine that I’ll score, so I think it’s a good bet on me to score and you’ll get a nice surprise”.

“I try to enjoy every training session because it’s an honour for me to wear this shirt, which obliges you to win titles. We know we have to work hard but we want to win everything because we´ve got a great squad”.

Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo
“Zidane is the best and Cristiano in training is the most difficult player I’ve ever come up against”.

Nacho: “A very difficult stadium to go to”
“Borussia’s stadium is a very difficult place to go, they work hard and there’s a lot of pressure, but we like that type of match. We’ve never won there and we want to do well and get the three points. We are in good shape and we want to do well”.

“We must continue do the things we’ve been doing: playing as a team, running more than the others and with the threat we pose we can do a lot of damage”.

The season
“We feel very positive. We started the season very well winning two Super Cups in very difficult matches and we’re very excited about everything that’s coming up. Playing for this shirt requires you to win every possible title. We’ve got a very good squad and we’re prepared for it”.

A youth team product in the first team
“Since you’re little you dream of playing at the Bernabéu and wearing this shirt for a long time. I’m lucky enough to be doing it and hopefully will do so for many more years. It takes a lot of work to stay here, which is difficult. Last year was the best of my career and logically this year I’m not going to have it easy. I like to better myself, I’m facing a very important challenge and I think I am prepared”.

“He’s a winner and more than anything he’s given us all confidence. That is the most important thing for a player. He’s helped me a lot since he arrived and thanks to him I’m still living my dream of playing here”.

Hala Madrid!
