Ready For Espanyol & More

30 Sep

The team held their final session before welcoming Espanyol (and El Pirata!) to the Bernabeu tomorrow.

All hands were on deck for the session with the exception of G-Money who worked out indoors. Theo, Benz, Marcelo and Mateo continued their recoveries. Theo did some drills on the pitch. (Video)

Zidane: “If we’re to beat Espanyol, we’ll have to perform well right from the off”

“We come into the game on the back of two good wins, we want to put in a good performance and win Sunday’s game”, insisted the Real Madrid coach.

Zinedine Zidane took to the media room at Real Madrid City on the eve of his side’s LaLiga Matchday 7 encounter against Espanyol, with the Whites’ boss previewing Sunday’s Santiago Bernabéu clash in the following terms: “We come up against a team that has the players to play good football, but it’s a different matter when it comes to playing at the Bernabéu and they may well come here and sit back. We’ll have to read the game right and look to find the solutions to win the game. We’ll have to go out and play our game and perform well right from the off and that’s all there is to it”.

“We want to continue to perform as we have been doing. We come into the game on the back of two good wins. We want to put in a good performance. If we play well and make a strong start we’ll be in with a good chance of winning the game. Tomorrow we’ve got the chance to turn our Bernabéu form around. What’s in the past is in the past and there’s no need to keep going over it”.

The Bernabéu faithful
“These fans have always been here for us and we wouldn’t change them for anything. You can’t go thinking that we don’t like playing at the Bernabéu. Quite the opposite, we’d like to play here every week. We can’t change things that are in the past and what we now want to do is win tomorrow’s game and we’ll be giving our all to get the three points. Our fans are behind us and we enjoy playing at our stadium”.

“We’ll have to see whether he’s involved tomorrow. It’s muscle fatigue, but we don’t like to take any risks. That’s all there is to it, there’s no issue between Madrid and the Welsh national team. His state of fitness will determine whether he joins up with the national squad or not”.

Asensio’s contract renewal
“I’m delighted that he’s renewed his deal, because he deserves it, as do all of the others who have signed renewed deals. I hope that all of them stay at the club for a long time. Asensio trains with Cristiano Ronaldo every single day and what he said of him is true. He’s a role model for everyone, above all in terms of the energy that he transmits to others”.

“I’d love for us to win all of our games comprehensively, but we all know what football is like and we’re aware that despite us having the best players, we can’t always win. We have to prove ourselves every day and that’s what I like about this job. We were raring to go out and show that following some poor results we were capable of completely turning things around and we managed to do that”.

Ronaldo’s contract extension
“I think that he’s fine. What he’s interested in is being out on the pitch, playing and scoring goals. I’m not going to get involved in issues between the club and Cristiano Ronaldo, but I don’t think that there’s any problem between them. The biggest thing for him is that he’s on the pitch and plays tomorrow”.

“The most important thing is that they’re all available and we haven’t got long to wait until all three of them are back together. We’ve just got to show a bit of patience”.

Ceremony to mark his contract renewal
“I was previously unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu and that’s that. I train the team here at Real Madrid City”.

Spanish national team
“They’ve had some tough times and have changed their coach, but they’ve always had a very good team. I admire the way they play, the players in the team and the coach who has taken over. I like the way they play, as well as the country itself and how the Spanish live. I like their lifestyle and love the way they play football”.

In other news, Cris was voted best player of the week in the Champions League beating out Neymar, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

And a special animo to Dani Carvajal who has been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection. Anything dealing with the heart scares me so sending lots of good wishes his way for a speedy recovery.
