El Clasico Prep Begins

19 Dec

Like it or not, the Clasico is fast approaching. Injury to insult, kick off is 7 AM here in NYC. The only other place I’ve ever watched a Clasico besides my home bar is the Bernabeu but this one, I’ll be sitting on my couch grumpily nursing a coffee. I may have to preemptively bake muffins for my neighbors because I will undoubtedly wake them up by shouting. Ugh.

Training

The team began their prep today.  U19s goalkeeper joined the first team for the session. Birthday boy Karim and Cristiano stayed indoors. Special CrispyKarim training! Luca continued his recovery work on the pitch.  (Video)

Ramos: “We come into the game in good form after winning the Club World Cup”

“It’s a different sort of game, it’s the most important match in world football and we’ve got to win it to keep ourselves in the hunt in LaLiga”.

Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, spoke about the mood within the camp ahead of Saturday’s El Clásico encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu (1pm CET): “We come into the game in good form after winning the Club World Cup, which has done the team’s morale a world of good. We’re looking forward to the game and are working hard this week to try and get the three points that would keep us right there at the top of the table”.

“It’s a really big one, no words can do it justice. It’s a different sort of game. It’s the most important match in world football, and given the points difference ahead of kick-off, we’ve got to win it to keep ourselves in the hunt in LaLiga”.

Modric: “We are ready and willing to give our all in el Clásico”

“It is important to be together and not give Barcelona any space”, he added, as he spoke to Codere.

Four days to go until Real Madrid close off what has been an historic 2017 by playing el Clásico at the Bernabéu. Luka Modric spoke to Codere, the official Real Madrid betting partners, about the game: “We are in good shape and happy that we have this great game to play in before Christmas. We are ready and willing to give our all in el Clásico. Hopefully we will win and get closer to the top of the table.”

“Winning will depend on playing together, on how we read the game and how we play as a unified team. It is important to be together and not give Barcelona any space because if you let them play, they have players who can really punish you. The two teams have some great players and any of them can decide the game.”

Aims
“We want to win every possible title again. We are there in the league and we will give everything we can to try to overcome. There is also a lot to play for in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, which we would love to win again.”

Ambitious
“That is my character, I always strive for more. Even if I am satisfied with what I have done, I always look to the next. You have to enjoy it for as long as it lasts. That is what pushes me forward and is part of my being.”

“Our fans are always there supporting us. In the big games they always support us and I hope they create a great atmosphere and give it their all in the stands, just as we will on the pitch. We hope they go home happy”.

His best moments as a Madridista
“There have been many beautiful moments at Real Madrid but I was expecting a lot from la Décima and we have that title, although all of those that came after are brilliant and unforgettable.”

His dream
“I’ve always had confidence and had it in my mind that I was going to go far. Signing for Real Madrid and winning titles is a dream come true. There are not many players who have managed to retire whilst playing for such a team and let’s see what happens. That is my real aim. I also need to win something with Croatia.”

I am so, sooo NOT freaking ready for this. NOT. It’s too close to the holidays to bloody torture us like this. To whoever planned this shit schedule it’s not cool buddy. No matter how ever much of cash you will be rolling in after the match.

Yeah, the schedule BLOWS. I know it will probably be better for some markets but my friends who own bars are not enjoying this at all. Not only is it at ass o’clock in the morning, it’s two days before Christmas. They may open for it, but I certainly won’t be there. (When I lived 2 blocks from my local, it was a different story!)

And to be honest, the boys have been making me extra nervous lately.
