As Ready As One Can Be

22 Dec

I personally am never ready for El Clasico, but I sure hope the boys are. Let’s end this year with a decisive win under our belts, shall we?

The team had their final session today. Cris joined the team for training as did Moha from the U19s. (Video)

“Our fans give us something extra and we’re going to need them from the first to the last minute”, said the Real Madrid coach.

Zinedine Zidane spoke in the press room at Real Madrid City the day before el Clásico (Saturday, 1pm CET). The Whites’ coach analysed the league match against Barcelona at the Bernabéu: “The feelings in the group are good and we’re looking forward to this game. We’re ready to put in a great performance. The good thing is that we’re prepared for this type of game. I like playing good football and that’s what we’re going to try to do. We’re only thinking about putting in a good performance against a very good opposition”.

“We’re interested in what we’re going to do as a team. The important thing is how we’re going to manage the game. It’ll be the most difficult game of the season because Clásicos are always beautiful and difficult but that’s what we like. The players play for this type of games and are always thinking about these games”.

The importance of the Bernabéu fans
“For us, as against Sevilla, we know that our fans give us something extra and we’re going to need them to be with us again. We want them to get behind us from the first to the last minute. We’ll not win the match in 10 or 15 minutes, but with patience and time we can win and we’ll need them from the beginning until the end”.

The key to el Clásico
“It’ll be our desire, our ambition and how we start the game. If we don’t play well with the ball we will have problems. We have to not think about the difference in points. I don’t think it’s a decisive match in terms of the league. You have to think positively. We’re very good and better in each area of the field. Even if we lose, the league will not be over. Every match will be a final and we’ll try to reduce the points difference but always staying calm and playing good football. Whatever happens tomorrow we’ll continue working and knowing that it’s a very long season”.

Should Barcelona do a guard of honour?
“I’m not interested in that subject at all. What’s important to me, to my players and to the madridistas is the match tomorrow against Barcelona and nothing else”.

“We’re not thinking about the Spanish Super Cup. This is a different situation and another game. We’re fine and what interests me is how my team is doing. The opposition are very good and strong. It doesn’t matter if they play well or badly, but they’re top of the league and that’s a fact and it’s deserved. If they’re top, it’s because of something. Tomorrow we want to reduce the distance and play a good game. If we play well we can hurt any team. I can’t tell you how we’re going to play or if we’re going attack through the middle or out wide. Against this team we have to play well to win”.

Cristiano Ronaldo
“He’s okay. He’s 100%. He’s trained today and what interests me is this. I’m not going to go in to things that aren’t football related. For what he has done and what Cristiano Ronaldo is to this club he deserves all the respect from the club and he has it. After the holidays we’ll talk about that but the important thing is tomorrow’s game”.

His Clásicos
“I remember one in the Champions League playing in Barcelona and winning a semi-final at the Camp Nou was very nice”.

“I always trust my players and communication is the most important thing. I’ll not choose a player because I want him to play in a Clásico. I trust my players and they can get injured, but the important thing is that I think he is 100% to play. We’ll see if he plays or not tomorrow”.

“Tomorrow all the players will be there and that’s good, but at the same time bad because I have to leave some out. I have all the options and tomorrow I will choose for the match”.

Your evaluation of 2017
“Last year you asked me this same question. I’ll not put a number on it. The record so far is quite good. In the league it’s been a bit difficult for us, but there’s still a long way to go and we can win back points. We’re only thinking about that”.

Call Ups

The following players were called up for the match:

Goalkeepers: Navas, Casilla and Moha.
Defenders: Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo and Theo.
Midfielders: Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Asensio, Isco and Kovacic.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale and Lucas Vázquez.

The team is now holed up at their official residence until kick off. (Video)

I just want to see us play with passion tomorrow. There has been such a weird feeling, an odd disconnect lately. We have so much talent but a spark seems to be missing. Hoping for a Christmas miracle so that we can get our groove back.

Let’s do this, gentlemen! (And now I’m going to bed so I can get up for the early morning match)> Hala Madrid y nada mas!
