“We don’t feel the pressure, we like playing games like this”, he added.

Zinedine Zidane spoke to the press in the pressroom at Real Madrid City in the build-up to Wednesday’s game against PSG in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 (8:45pm CET). The coach shared his thoughts in front of the large gathering of journalists: “We’re focussing first and foremost on the game tomorrow. We know it will be a 180-minute affair, maybe more, but the first challenge comes tomorrow and that’s that. It will be a 50/50 tie. Both teams have a good chance of getting through”.

“We just want out fans to be proud of us. We’re going to give our all and the fans will be behind us, just as they always are, even when the going gets tough. Tomorrow is another competition to focus on and we’ll give absolutely everything”.

System
“What I want is for my team to be focussed on the game. We’ll see tomorrow. The system isn’t really important, it’s what we do out there on the pitch that counts. What I can tell you is that the way we set up isn’t the key. My concern is what my players go out there and do”.

Rivalry
“This won’t change what people may think of us. All I’m thinking about is the performance we are going to put in and not what people say. Against PSG, being an Olympique de Marseille fan, it’s true that historically there is a rivalry, but I’m not thinking about that. This is Real Madrid-PSG and we know it will be a hard-fought affair against a great side who can really make life hard for us”.

A special game
“I’m happy to be involved in such games. I don’t think there is any real pressure at the moment. We have prepared just as we always do and it’s true that pressure will always be there in the background. That’s normal, I’m going to enjoy this”.

“I’m not thinking about my future, I’m just focussed on tomorrow’s game. That is what I’m concentrating on. We are going to try and put in a good shift, and do our job well. All of the training session, all of the games, they play a role for us and my future is not the key thing here”.

Pressure
“I’m not sure which side has the most pressure on them. We don’t feel pressured, we are used to playing in such games. We want to experience a good match and people come out to see a spectacle. It is not a final for me. It is a Champions League game. What we have to do is play well and if we do that the sky is the limit”.

Cristiano and Neymar
“We’ve been speaking about big players but tomorrow is a case of Real Madrid-PSG, not Neymar against Cristiano. Cristiano has done some extraordinary things and won five Ballon d’Or trophies. I’m not going to make any comparisons. We all know what Neymar can do on the pitch. He has real quality and often makes the difference. We’re not here for a showdown between those two, we’re here to watch Real Madrid take on PSG”.

Bale substitutions
“I have to make substitutions during the game and I often do that with the offensive players. I have done it with Bale, Isco, Benzema… there is nothing more to it”.

Guti as a coach
“I think he is capable, I see him working as a coach now and hopefully he will make the step up one day. I’ve said that to him and I think he’s doing well. I really think he’s making strides. He’s a Real Madrid man through and through, he has been here forever. He is living out his dream, so hopefully one day he’ll get there”.

Man marking?
“I’m not sure if I have to reply or not. I keep my cards close to my chest. Let’s see what happens tomorrow”.

“I’m not thinking about my future, I’m just focussed on tomorrow’s game. That is what I’m concentrating on. We are going to try and put in a good shift, and do our job well. All of the training session, all of the games, they play a role for us and my future is not the key thing here”.

Marcelo: “The fans will back us to the hilt as we look to get the job done”

“We don’t have to prove ourselves to anyone, we’re raring to go on and defend this title”, promised the Brazilian.

Marcelo spoke to the press in the pressroom at Real Madrid City in the build-up to Wednesday’s game against PSG in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 (8:45pm CET): “We are really geared up as we go into this game, it’s huge. We know what it means to win this competition and every Champions League game is a real motivation for us. I have won plenty of titles with Real Madrid, but I always look to train hard, fight to win even more. We’re raring to go on and defend this title”.

“We don’t have to prove ourselves to anyone, we know just what we are capable of. This is one of those big games that any player would want to feature in. We don’t mind people talking about us, even when we get positive comments, it never goes to our heads”.

The atmosphere in the Bernabéu
“I’m always proud to have the privilege of playing at the Bernabéu, in front of our fans. I’m sure it will help us. They will will back us to the hilt as we look to get the job done. My message to them would be to lease keep on doing what you’ve done for us so far, it really is important for us”.

The system and attitude towards the game
“The coach has told us how we need to play. I don’t have any preference to the system we play, I just want to be out there, playing my football. It’s not the main issue. What will prove key is each player playing his role in the team. Zidane has said exactly what he needed to say to us and we’d follow him into any battle”.

“PSG are a great side. It would be wrong of us to focus solely on Neymar. He is at the top level, but the collective is what often proves vital. We’re looking at the whole team. We know what we have to do and we’ve had time to prepare. It will be a real challenge, we’re not looking just at that front line, despite the obvious quality they have. They are an attacking side, this one is going to be wide open. Let’s see how this first game goes then we can turn our attentions to the return leg”.

Neymar
“The Real Madrid fans like watching the best players. Neymar is world class and any set of fans in the world would want Neymar in their team”.

Zidane
“I speak a lot about the manager. For me he is an open person, he helps us achieve what we strive for, and pushes us on. He is a brilliant coach. Things are not going perfectly but I’m sure he’ll get us on the right track again. He is patient, believes in what he is doing and we have every faith too”.

Pressure
“We’re used to it. There will always be pressure. I’ve been here 11 years, it’s normal for me. We have to focus but remain calm if we want to win. We’re not rocked by pressure, it’s something we’re used to contending with”.
