World Cup 2018: The Not-So-Beautiful Game

Back in 2014, the English anti-violence organization Tender ran the #StandUpWorldCup campaign to draw attention to the issue of increased domestic violence when England play.

For this World Cup, The National Centre for Domestic Violence launched a similar campaign entitled ‘The Not-So-Beautiful Game’ based on the flags of Switzerland, Japan, and England:

The images above were posted online, in print, and as billboards in prominent London locations such as Canary Wharf every day England, Switzerland, or Japan played.

According to the NCDV, “Domestic Violence and the World Cup are closely linked, with reported incidents increasing by 26% if England plays, 38% if England loses and 11% the next day, win or lose.

So while you’re watching England in the semi-final maybe give a thought or more to the domestic partners who can’t win for losing, no matter the match outcome.
