U-20 Women’s World Cup: Quarter-finals Recap

20 Aug

Well well well. Oui oui oui. Fortunate favoured France in a rematch of the 2016 final, with the hosts besting title holders North Korea to book their place in the semi-finals. France had to do it with a penalty but a goal is a goal is a goal, or so I’m repeatedly told.

France is going to hope their good fortunate holds when they take on Spain, a team in ascendance. Golden Boot leader Patricia Guijarro has five goals and three assists already, including a hat trick. If she’s on, France is gone.

England barn-burned their way through the group stage and showed no signs of letting up in their quarter-final vs Netherlands. Japan have had some bobbles settling their nerves and if they falter early they may find themselves unable to regain ground on the Lionesses later on.
