Solari: “We’ll have to produce a disciplined and well-organised performance, just as we have done in our last two games”
by Javier Garcia (Plzeň)

“I’m very pleased to be involved in the Champions League as a coach, I really enjoyed playing in the competition as a player”, stated the Whites’ boss.

Santiago Solari took to the media room at the Doosan Arena on the eve of his side’s Champions League encounter with Viktoria Plzen, with the Whites’ boss previewing the game in the following terms: “This competition is always really special, it’s one that’s closely linked to the history of this club. The two are inseparable. When the Champions League anthem sounds, we all get excited. It’s fantastic to be back and involved in this competition. I’m really pleased to get the chance to be involved as a coach, I really enjoyed playing in the competition as a player”.

“We’ve produced two displays in which we had to perform well to win the games. They were tough matches and we delivered disciplined and well-organised performances. We’ll have to reproduce that tomorrow in the Champions League”.

“He has broad enough shoulders to cope with the responsibility of being Real Madrid captain, which is a big one. He has been and continues to be a fantastic captain. I think that he makes a marvelous job of a task that’s far from easy”.

The team’s response
“We’ve done a lot of good things in our last two games, we’ve got to focus on them and improve in the areas in which we haven’t done so well”.

Nacho: “We need to win to continue building our confidence”
by Javier Garcia (Plzeň)

“We approach the competition with all of the excitement in the world and we’ve got the players to do something special again”, he added.

Nacho addressed the media on the eve of the meeting with Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena (Wednesday, 9pm CET) and the defender had the following to say ahead of the clash: “We need to win to continue building our confidence. It’s not easy to go several games without winning at Real Madrid and these last two victories have given us confidence. We want to continue that winning run tomorrow to keep our confidence levels up, keep another clean sheet and extend this run to establish greater stability”.

“It’s a very important game, nothing is decided in the group and we need to win to give us a better chance of progressing to the next round. When we met at the Bernabéu it was a tough game. In the end, we were made to suffer because they had some chances, but every Champions League game is tough. If I had to pick one of their players out it would be their striker, Krmencik, who won’t be involved because he’s injured, but I really liked the look of him”.

Champions League experience
“It’s important. We’ve got a core group of players who’ve been champions of Europe many times. We approach the competition with all of the excitement in the world, just as we do every year. It’s a special competition and we’ve got some excellent players for us to again enjoy a fine campaign”.

Motivation levels for this game
“Wearing this badge brings massive responsibility with it and I’ve always dreamed of wearing this shirt. I approach every game as if it was the most important match of my career”.

“It’s not easy when there’s a change in coach, but he’s very much part of this club and is well equipped. He’s got off to a good start and we’re happy with him. He’s our coach and we’re going to be there for him for whatever he needs. We’ll be trying to extend this winning run and we’re really happy with him”.

“He’s placed a lot of importance on rebuilding our confidence. We’d been on a bad run and had to trust ourselves again, both as individuals and as a group. We’re managing to do that. The two games that we’ve won weren’t high-profile wins, but every victory serves to boost your morale. What’s more, we’ve got an excellent squad here”.

Carvajal’s comments on Lopetegui
“Dani’s comments came at a difficult time, but if that’s what he thinks, you’ve always got to tell the truth. Lopetegui is amongst the best coaches that I’ve played under and we can only but wish him the best of luck because wherever he goes he’s sure to do well”.

Jeers at the Bernabéu?
“If I had the choice, I’d always opt to play at the Santiago Bernabéu, in front of our fans and with their backing”.

Vinicius Jr
“He’s proving that he’s gradually ready to play for Real Madrid. It’s tough to hold down a place in the first team here, but he’s young and has a strong mentality. With everyone’s help and without putting him under pressure he can go on and become a brilliant player, there’s no doubt about that”.

The team did a training session this evening at Doosan Arena. All 20 players who made the trip participated.
