The Daily Drool: Mikael Forssell

30 Aug

German born but of Finnish descent, striker Mikael is considered one of the best Finnish players ever. Now just 30, he had a professional career that started at age 16 with HJK. He was grabbed by Chelsea when he was 17 in 1998 and played for them until 2005, albeit much of that time on loan. He went out to Crystal Palace, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Birmingham City. He was sold to Birmingham City in 20o5 and stayed for 3 years. He moved on to Hannover 96 (2008-2011).  His contract expired at the end of the 2010-2011 and he had a trial with West Ham. In August, he had a trial with Leeds United and it was successful enough that it was extended. He’s been a mainstay on the Finnish National Team since 1999.

Central defender Curtis signed to Birmingham City in January of 2011. He previously played for Aston Villa (2008-2011 with a loan to Leicester City in 2010-2011). He made 2 appearances for the England U21 team and has been named in other England squads, but has not made his full debut as of yet. Here’s a better shot of his face and lovely smile.

Yum. Makes you want to dive right in, doesn’t it?  Daniël is a Dutch-Israeli winger/attacking midfielder who began his career in 2004 with Ajax. He has played with Celta Vigo (2005-2007), Birmingham City (2007–2008), Wigan Athletic (2008-2010) and is currently on loan to Hapoel Tel Aviv, with whom he won the Israeli Cup this season. Daniël was on the Dutch U-21 team from 2004-2007 but was never called up to the senior side.
