The Daily Drool 2015 WWC: Canada’s Melissa Tancredi

Melissa TancrediI can’t believe the Women’s World Cup final is today! Seems like this whole adventure just started. I would be remiss if I didn’t feature host nation Canada today after they put on such a great tournament. Striker Melissa currently plays for the Chicago Red Stars. She has represented Canada at the senior level since 2004. Tanc is also a chiropractor. She earned her doctorate last year and was co-valedictorian of her class. Forward Christen currently plays for Chicago Red Stars and has represented the US at the U20, U23 and senior levels. In university, she won the 2010 Hermann Award and is Stanford’s all time leading scorer. She also has a blog about her life as a footballer.

The Daily Drool: 2015 WWC Group A: New Zealand’s Abby Erceg

Abby-ErcegNow, I’m not just picking defender Abby just because we share a birthday (okay, maybe I am). She’s the first player in New Zealand to reach 100 caps for the national team. She’s also represented her country at the Olympic and U20 levels. She currently plays for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Her hair also defies gravity, so extra cool.

The Reign of VfL Wolfsburg

2132319_w2VfL Wolfsburg surprised many last year when they beat powerhouse Olympique Lyonnais to win the UEFA Women’s Championship League title. They repeated that triumph this year after a fantastic battle vs Tyresö FF, and becoming the first German football team to successfully defend a Champions League title. To cap the season, Wolfsburg also secured their second consecutive Bundesliga title.
