Netherlands top Group E while Sinclair nabs her first goal in France

1-8-2. Beep. 1-8-2. Beep. 1-8-2. That’s goal 182 in the record books for Christine Sinclair. And while she keeps deflecting and saying she’s not keeping track or dwelling on it, here’s how I think she should be celebrating:

FIFA’s Female Leadership Development Programme (FLDP) concluded its first development module last week for 34 lucky participants from around the world. One (always) very happy participant was Karina LeBlanc, former Canadian WNT goalkeeper, who entertained me all week with her social media updates. No workshop participant was safe from her camera, including the incoming FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura and FIFA President Gianni Infantino!

CONCACAF Rio 2016 Bound!

The 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship wrapped up on February 21 with more whimper than bang. Unless you were on the USA team then you may have a few bruises which would suggest otherwise. Nevertheless, as expected the final featured USA vs Canada and while the former team showed up to play, the latter, well, were tactically wanting. And that’s all I’ll say on this particular topic.

And so it is written. The stuffed turtle key chain named Myrtle was right. As stuffed turtle key chains tend to be, ya know. England for the win. God Save the Queen. Yada yada yada. I’m happy for England, I really am. Just not as happy as I would have been if Canada had won. You understand.

Well into the second week of the Women’s World Cup and I still haven’t located a sticker album locally. What’s up with that? Is there anyone out there who has procured one? I kinda feel they are a myth, a myth perpetuated to mess with my head. Uh huh.

The Daily Drool: Women’s World Cup Week: Christine Sinclair

Forward Christine is the captain of the Canadian Women’s National Team and currently plays for the Western New York Flash of the Women’s Professional Soccer league with teammate and Drool alum Marta. Christine has been a member of the Canadian senior side since 2000, making 159 appearances and scoring 116 goals! She also played for the Canadian U-19/U-20 teams in 2001-2002 and made 19 appearances scoring 27 goals. She’s Canada’s all time leading scorer. Dang, girl! She has won the Canadian Player of the Year 6 times to date: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. That’s just a sampling of her honors. A bit of trivia: She is the niece of former North American Soccer League players Bruce and Brian Gant.

Updated: As you know, I prepare these well in advance so sometimes, I need to add a bit more. Wanna know what a total badass Christine is? She got her nose broken on Sunday in the match against Germany and refused to stop playing. Then she went on and scored. Read all about it. Cripes, Busquets and DiMaria dive if you look at them crosseyed and act like they’re having their man bits chopped off. Christine brushes off an actual broken nose and does her job. Let this be a lesson to you, gentlemen. Real women pick themselves up and get on with it. No diving and whining needed.
