World Cup 2014 – The Wake Up Call & Even Weirder Beat Up Xabi Photoshoot

13 Jun

Adidas launched their Wake Up Call campaign starring (as usual) Messi along with Dani Alves, Basti Schweinsteiger, Luis Suarez,  Xavi, Jordi Alba, Mesut Ozil,  Robin Van Persie and David Villa along with many of their national teammates. It’s supposed to be dreamlike but the photo shoot after the jump is more the stuff of nightmares. Continue reading

A Lot Of Catching Up To Do…

13 Aug

Yes, my lazy arse is finally back to posting. Sorry I’ve neglected you for the past few days. I got back from Philly late on Saturday night and spent almost all of Sunday fast asleep. I was worn out! Didn’t even turn on my computer.  Shout outs to Team Sweaty Shanks (DK, J-9, Shiggers & ginboonmiller) who accompanied me on the journey and awesome watishistas mygypsyspirit, conflictedinspain, Mandi & blackwidow who we got to meet up with. I really enjoyed hanging out with you ladies! I’m so sunburned that I glow in the dark and I could sleep for another week straight, but I had a wonderful time at the pre-season matches.

RM arrived in Spain yesterday (exceptions being the La Roja players that were called up). They didn’t waste any time hauling arse outta there after the game. Heck, Mesut posted a shot of them on the plane while we were enjoying our post-match pints. Continue reading

So Long Netherlands

19 Jun

Trying to watch both the Germany/Denmark and Portugal/Netherlands game was next to impossible on Sunday.  Though the pub had both games on multiple screens, our view of Portugal/Netherlands was blocked by a tall couple who couldn’t stop making schmoopy faces at each other and kissing. They weren’t even watching either match! Argh! Sadly, they did not listen to the rather loud suggestions of watishista P and I, who helpfully reminded them that they might enjoy doing that at home, or you know, anywhere that wasn’t between us and the TV set. Suffice to say, it was annoying. The shouts of nearby Portugal fans and the groans of Dutch supporters pretty much told us all we needed to know. Continue reading

The Daily Drool: Stuart Holden

15 Jul

I know we have a lot of Stu fans here. For those new to this total cutie, he’s a Scottish-born American midfielder who plays for Bolton Wanderers of the EPL and the US National Team. Poor bebe has had some seriously shit luck. The ever charming Nigel De Jong broke his leg during a (not so) friendly match in March 2010 causing him to miss 6 weeks. Then in March 2011, Manchester United’s Jonny Evans made a nasty tackle which resulted in a knee injury that is due to keep Holden out for 6 months. He’s hoping to return to the pitch in September-October. Poor boo should be wrapped in bubble wrap every March just to be safe. One thing I adore about Stuart is his great sense of humor. Check out this picture of him volunteering at a hospital in Houston:
