Lyon’s Sexist Faux Pas

Oh…hell to the no. These were photos captured from the MEN’s Ligue One game between Olympique Lyon (OL) vs Lille on the weekend. And who quickly called them out on it? The captain of the OL women’s team and world-class defender, Wendie Renard.

Rule Against Women

Did you know it became “a rule that no women [we]re permitted to work with the first team at Leeds”? A rule. This came about following the firing of Lucy Ward, Leeds United’s Head of Education, for “dubious” reasons. What rightfully followed that action was Ward’s pursuit of an unfair dismissal and sex discrimination court case vs the club, which she won this past summer.

The following is a guest post from one of my fellow volunteers from the 2015 Women’s World Cup. She and I randomly started talking one day, a conversation which led me to interviewing her for our volunteer newsletter. It was during the interview I learned of her experiences being a female footballer living in London, and I (of course) just had to ask her if she’d be interested in sharing here. So happy she was and now has. The more stories female players share, the better off the sport will become.

2015 WWC: Really!?! With Seth And Amy

Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers reunited last week on Meyer’s show for a special rendition of their popular Saturday Night Live segment, “Really!?!” The topic? Sexist comments made by Sports Illustrated writer Andy Benoit about women’s soccer and women’s sports in general. Their conclusion? “No more tweeting Benoit. You’re too dumb.” Perfectly stated! Really!

Female Soccer Fans Subjected to Strip Searches

As if Russia doesn’t have enough problems at the moment, some Spartak Moscow female fans were subjected to strip searches prior to a game vs Rubin Kazan this past Friday. Yes, you read that correctly. When I came across this story yesterday, I had no words. Today, I have many many words, most of which are unprintable and unsayable in certain company. So I’ll stick to those that can be said and you can fill in the blanks as you wish.

UPDATED: Bits & Bobs: The “I Need A Cocktail Something Fierce” Edition

Oh boy, it has been a long day. I was up really early working from home while waiting for not one, but two (!), visits from the air conditioner repairman and considering how humid and gross this NYC summer has been, it was an absolute must. So, now I’m a couple of hundred bucks poorer, but the house is cool again. Alas, my brain is fried though. Summers are supposed to be slow, don’t you think? Why is work so busy? Argh. Anyhow, I’m going to drop some bits and bobs that I’ve collected on y’all, then pour myself a nice glass of wine and kick back for the evening.

To start things off, the fabulous torso of Sami Khedira! He and Lena are now in Miami. However, he’s sporting the same trunks that Mesut and Sergio had last summer.  C’mon, Sami! Those trunks are sooooo 2011! He still looks hot as hell.
