August 4: Varsity Letters (more info link including upcoming speakers)
Gelf’s Varsity Letters sports reading series returns on Thursday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m., at Manhattan’s Le Poisson Rouge. At this free monthly event, hosted by Gelf, Bill Strickland and Grant Wahl will read from and talk about their work. Strickland chronicled Lance Armstrong’s return from retirement to compete in the 2009 Tour de France, and has added to his book in light of recent doping accusations against Armstrong. Wahl will describe his quixotic bid for the presidency of FIFA, the powerful and troubled governing body of world soccer. Please spread the word to sports fans and book lovers.
