The Daily Drool: Champions League Group G – Porto’s Sinan Bolat
28 OctGoalkeeper Sinan joined Porto in 2013 from Standard Liège. He has represented Turkey at the U19, U21 and senior levels. He holds a VERY interesting record. While he was at Standard Liège, they were playing their final Champions League game in December 2009 against AZ Alkmaar. It look like all hope was lost as AZ was up 1-0. However, in the 95th minute Standard Liège was awarded a free kick. Sinan pushed upfield and scored a header! That tied the game up and clinched third place in the group for his team giving them a spot in the Europa League. He is the only goalkeeper in history to ever score in open play in the Champions League. Here’s the historic moment.
