Thomas Hitzlsperger Comes Out

Thomas Hitzlsperger, who retired in September 2013 has revealed that he is gay. The 31 year old central midfielder played in the EPL (Aston Villa, West Ham, Everton), Serie A (Lazio), Bundesliga (Wolfsburg, Stuttgart) and League 2 (Chesterfield). He represented Germany at the U19 (as captain), U21 and senior levels.

His Germany teammate Lukas Podolski tweeted “”Brave and right decision. Respect, Thomas Hitzlsperger. His outing is a important sign in our time.” Many others including his former club, Aston Villa, have expressed their support.  I look forward to a day when this will no longer be such big news. I admire & wholeheartedly support Thomas’s decision to come forward. This has got to be a relief for him. I hope that many others will follow.

Forward Shinji has just transferred from VfB Stuttgart to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga. He has represented Japan at the U23 and senior levels.

The Daily Drool: Joachim “Jogi” Löw

The fashionable and handsome Jogi has a long coaching career. He started out in 1994 coaching FC Winterthur (youth) before moving on to FC Frauenfeld, VfB Stuttgart (assistant and head coach),  Fenerbahçe, Karlsruher SC, Adanaspor, FC Tirol Innsbruck, FK Austria Wien and was an assistant to the Germany National Team from 2004-2006. He took over as the head coach in 2006.

Midfielder Alexandru moved to VfB Stuttgart from CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu on January 31st. He has represented Romania at U21 and senior levels. He’s kinda Stu Holden-esque looking, isn’t he?
