World Cup 2014: Minimalist Posters of Memorable Football Moments

13 Jul

There have been some incredible moments at this World Cup. I’ll never forget Tim Cahill’s goal vs Netherlands. That has to be one of, if not THE, goal of this tournament. Xherdan Shaqiri’s thunderbolt vs Honduras was so good, even in a game which saw him net two more. There was Memo Ochoa’s performance vs Brazil. How calm he was, just chewing his gum, moving to and fro across the goal with ease, his hair perfectly coiffed with the headband. There were also Keylor Navas’ go-go-gadget performances vs everyone. And Tim Howard vs Belgium. So many memorable moments. Continue reading

World Cup 2014 – The Wake Up Call & Even Weirder Beat Up Xabi Photoshoot

13 Jun

Adidas launched their Wake Up Call campaign starring (as usual) Messi along with Dani Alves, Basti Schweinsteiger, Luis Suarez,  Xavi, Jordi Alba, Mesut Ozil,  Robin Van Persie and David Villa along with many of their national teammates. It’s supposed to be dreamlike but the photo shoot after the jump is more the stuff of nightmares. Continue reading

Some Friday Night Bits & Bobs

The weather and Halloween seemed to be popular subjects on social media over the last few days. David Luiz shared a rainbow from his balcony (best view in London!) Continue reading

The Daily Drool: Maarten Stekelenburg

23 May

Today we celebrate Maarten, who finally got poor Sese off the hook after he dropped Ajax’s trophy off a bus. Bless.  I love a hot trophy killer!  Goalie (yes, a goalkeeper) Maarten is 6’6″ so that’s some extra distance for a trophy to fall but that long lanky body gives him a bit more to cover the goal with! He started with Ajax as a youth player at age 15 and joined the senior team in 2001. He’s been a member of the Dutch National Team since 2004. Since the retirement of Edwin van der Sar, he’s been the first choice keeper for the Netherlands. He did a great job during the 2010 World Cup, only letting in 6 goals during the tournament, the last being Iniesta’s 11oth minute game winner in the final.

The Daily Drool: Manuel Neuer

7 May

The delightful and adorbs Manuel Neuer is the goalkeeper for Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. Neuer came up through the Schalke youth system (he’s a native of Gelsenkirchen just like Mesut Ozil) and joined the senior team in 2005. He is a spectacular goalkeeper as witnessed during the 2010 World Cup and the current Champions League games that saw Schalke making it to the semi-finals. He joined the U-18 German National Team in 2008 and worked his way up to Die Mannschaft in 2009. The injury of goalie Rene Adler saw Duckie step in during the World Cup and doing a splendid job!
