Welcome to Group D, and the first player substitution for the HB & HB World Cup coverage! I’m hopechaser (or Teri if you prefer) and I’ve been asked to parachute in to take over the Group D coverage honours so Lozil can tip her sleep-to-awake hours ratio a bit more in towards sleep. Just think of me as the Isco to her Ronaldo. But substitute a D-cup for the beard. Hey, group D…D cup…meant to be or TMI?
(Totally apt, as I am well known for my DD’s. 😉 I guess I picked the right person to pinch hit for me! You are too kind with the CR7 comparisons . I am not worthy…or that orange. – Lozil)
So we’ll be starting out like this:
And I’ll bust ass to become like this:
So she’s not all WTF like this:
We good? Then let’s get to it!
Group Composition
Saturday is kick-off day for Group D. And the one key piece of information you need to know about this group? It doesn’t have just one previous World Cup winner. Oh no, that is just way too easy. Group D has three previous winners:
England – 1966
Uruguay – 1930, 1950
Italy – 1934, 1938, 1982, 2006
We Group D-ers scoff at the other groups who have just one. Pffft, underachievers. See, there may be a previous winner from another group who doesn’t advance past the group stage. But we KNOW we will have at least one, and that makes this group guaranteed to endure big D ‘Drama’. (Though, is it even possible to not have drama when Italy is involved?)
Costa Rica joins in the fun as the fourth member of the group. They are no Justin Jeffre though. They may not have a golden international pedigree like the other three teams but Costa Rica is no slouch with winning tournaments. It would be a huge mistake for any team, anyone for that matter, to write them off.
