Ready For Malaga

20 May

The team had their final training session before facing Malaga tomorrow in the final match of the season.

All available players were at the session today along with Castilla’s Enzo. Still working on their recoveries, Dani & Gareth did some light ball work on the pitch.

Zidane: “It’s in our hands and we’re going to give it everything to win LaLiga”
by Alberto Navarro

“The unity of this group has been crucial. This is a spectacular squad and every member has felt important”, he added.

Zinedine Zidane appeared in the media room at Real Madrid City on the day before his side’s clash with Málaga: “It’s in our hands and that’s significant. We’ve got one game left and we’re working exactly as we’d want. We’re going into it in great physical shape and we’ll go out and give it everything we’ve got to win the game just as we always do”.

“We’re not going to change anything. The plan is to go out firing on all cylinders, give 100% and play to win it, as ever. That’s in this club’s DNA and we’ll have to see what happens. The only thing in our minds is to go out to win the game. We’re in good spirits and in tip top physical condition. Everyone will travel tomorrow, we’re all important and everyone needs to be ready for the remaining games”.

Málaga’s fine form
“It’ll be difficult, against a team that has been playing phenomenally well lately. I’m not looking at the opposition or anywhere else. We’re relying on our game and I’m more concerned with what we’re doing. It’s going to be a tough match. Málaga have picked up some very good results and I think it’s going to be even more difficult than Wednesday’s game. We knew the final three games were going to be tough”.

Deserving champions?
“There are lots of teams who deserve to win LaLiga and tomorrow we’ll see who claims it. We’ve worked very well so far and we’re in the final for LaLiga and then another one in the Champions League. We’ve done a great job but we haven’t won anything yet”.

The difficulty of winning LaLiga
“We know how hard it is to win LaLiga. It’s very tough because there are 38 games, it’s far from easy. Every week, or every three days, you have to show how much you want to win it and that’s what we’ve managed to do so far. We work extremely hard and the players have been fantastic every day. We deserve the position we’re in. We’re top and now we’ve got to finish the job off in the final and most difficult game”.

“I would have like to have won it earlier, but that’s not been possible because of how hard it is. That’s what makes winning it so special. We’re all extremely motivated and we’re not going to let our guard down until the final minute. We had problems against Celta and Sevilla but with concentration and by working hard, that’s how you win things”.

Praise for the squad
“The nature of the group has been key. All the players, and I’ve said this since the beginning, are spectacular. Every single one is fantastic and they’ve all felt important. Some play more than others, but that’s always going to be the case. They’ve all been equally great and have all had a crucial role to play for us, especially when we’re playing every three days and have racked up 60 games this year”.

“The success is in the unity of this group and I think the players deserve this because they’ve believed in the idea from day one. We’ve done a great job. I have to make changes before and during games and the players have responded to that brilliantly. It’s all thanks to them”.

More difficult to win LaLiga or the Champions League?
“They’re both tough. LaLiga is the one we’re working for day in day out. It’s difficult because it’s the first one up for grabs and everyone wants to win it, but it’s equally hard. I’ve still not won LaLiga. That’s what we’re focussed on. We’ve worked really hard and we’ll give it our all to try and win tomorrow’s game”.

“There are a lot of people who don’t want Real Madrid to win LaLiga, but that’s always been the case and it always will be. It’s no problem. We know where we are and that we have to win it ourselves out on the pitch and by working hard every day, fighting and never letting our heads drop. That’s how we’re going to continue”.

Praise for Cristiano Ronaldo
“He’s performing fantastically and he’s on a sweet run of form, just like the rest of the squad. He’s very happy. There are two games to go and we’re going to give it everything we’ve got in both of them”.

Assessing the season
“I’m not looking at that yet, I’m afraid. I’m only thinking about tomorrow’s game and then we’ll take stock once the season has finished. We’ll do it all together: the club, myself and the players, all of us. We must focus only on tomorrow’s game and not get ahead of ourselves”.

Call Ups

The following players were called up for the match:

Midfielders: Kroos, James, Casemiro, Kovacic, Modric, Asensio, Isco and Enzo.

One more match, kids! We can do this! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!
