Don’t worry, Bastian, we’re all perplexed by the amount of injuries too.
On top of the news that Portugal would lose Fabio Coentrao, and that goalkeeper Rui Patricio and forward Hugo Almeida were injured, Germany sprung the news that defender Mats Hummels may not play against Ghana on Saturday.
Hummels has a “heavily bruised” right thigh. He was replaced by Mustafi in their match against Portugal. Jerome Boateng somehow injured his right thumb and will have to wear a brace when facing his brother, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Ghana.
(Schurrle doesn’t care. He just wants some alone time.)
USA trained today but we’re all worried about the injury to Jozy Altidore. He has a strained left hamstring, but Klinsmann is confident that Jozy’s World Cup run is not over. How soon he returns is all up to how well the recovery process goes.
Matt Besler, who was substituted at the half due to what looked like a thigh strain, is ready to go tomorrow if needed according to Klinsmann. Clint Dempsey scored the first US goal in what FIFA is now saying was in 30 seconds instead of 29. He suffers from a broken nose after being kicked by Boye. He played the remainder of the match but admitted he was having trouble breathing.
Let’s hope there aren’t any more injuries to deal with for any of the teams!
