USWNT icon Abby Wambach plays her last game in just a few hours and her teammates prepared this beautiful and emotional send off for her. And that wasn’t the only Abby related video that broke me today.
Her Gatorade ad destroyed me.
And as much as she wants it (she deleted all her social media accounts today), I don’t think we’ll ever forget her passion, determination, devotion and warrior spirit. She fought hard for equality and to advance the game. A brilliant player, a strong woman, a fierce competitor and a hero to so many. G.O.A.T.
I will never forget being at the match where she blew past Mia Hamm’s record scoring 4 goals in a 5-0 win against South Korea to become the all time leading scorer, male or female, in international soccer. It is one of my fondest soccer memories. I have pictures from the match with me, Shigs, J-9 and forzasusan. We’re incandescent with joy (and probably some beer as well). What a night. What a team. What a player.
Thank you, Abby, for everything. I truly hope that you and Sarah get a chance to enjoy your hard earned and well deserved retirement. But I really do hope you’ll check in now and then because I know that I, for one, will miss you.
And now, I’ve got a date with a box of tissues which I will be weeping into all evening.

Having a really hard time with this right now. I’ve done pretty well at ignoring the existence of today and now I’m falling apart.
That was an amazing night and I still feel privileged to have been there to see it in the flesh. What a rock star. I never thought I’d love a player like I loved the ’99ers but Abby…man, she stole my heart. Thank you, Abby, indeed.
Me too. So amazing and exciting.
I cried. Did you cry? I totally cried.
That Gatorade commercial is a minute long and it destroyed me in the first second.
I wept like a baby from before kick off. It was ridiculous.
