The team had a moment of silence before training today in tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
Obviously, I’ve been scarce for the past few days. I gotta be honest – the last thing I wanted to do was post about football (the Drools are all scheduled in advance, btw). As a New Yorker who was here on 9/11, Friday’s events were pretty triggering and I couldn’t even bring myself to get out of bed on Saturday. I finally did haul myself out in the evening but watching the press coverage from Paris brought back the fear, helplessness and heartbreak of those awful days. My thoughts and prayers are with those in France. I wish I could say that time heals the wounds, but sadly, it really doesn’t. But eventually you learn how to cope and live day to day even though your world is forever changed. Don’t even try to make sense of this – it’s incomprehensible. That people could care so little for life and their fellow humans that they would do something like this. My thoughts were not only with Paris, but also with Lebanon, Syria, Kenya, Japan, Mexico and so many other places where there has been loss from causes both man-made and natural. There’s so much sadness in the world right now. If you believe in a deity, please say a prayer for peace. If you don’t, just send out some good energy into the universe that the hatred and anger will dispel. Also, let’s remember that terrorism has no religion and ignore the finger pointing and sensationalist bullshit that some people are spewing. Instead, focus your energy toward love and peace. My thoughts and prayers are also with our former player Lass Diarra whose cousin Asta Diakite was among the dead. His life since leaving Madrid has been sad and complicated. At a time he should have been celebrating his hard-earned return, instead he is in mourning. (National teammate Antoine Griezmann’s sister was at the Bataclan but managed to escape unharmed – physically. I don’t think anyone is coming out of this okay emotionally). So yeah, that’s where I’ve been. In my head. Full of sadness.
I guess I should get back to talking about football, but I just had to get that off my chest. If you can’t do that on your own blog, where can you?
The team trained for this weekend’s Clasico. Marcelo, Sergio & Isco worked with the rest of the group. Castilla’s José Carlos Lazo, Héctor Martínez Torres and José León joined the first team. Keylor Navas worked out indoors. (Video)
They also touted Benzema’s scoring prowess vs. Barca.
On to some bits and bobs: Cristiano was interviewed on the Jonathan Ross show and it’s worth a watch:
He’s also been fairly ridiculous with the selfies lately including some mud mask adventures and guest starring Junior.
Sergio and Pilar shared another picture with wee woobins Marco.
Where’s big brother Sergio Jr.? I can’t wait to see a picture of the whole darn family. It’s interesting, isn’t it – they hid Sergio Jr. until he was almost a year old and they’re showing Marco from Day 1. Wonder what that’s all about? Oh and have some shirtless Sergio by the fire. Even the pants tucked into socks & sandals can’t take away from his hotness.
And just looking at Marcelo, Clarice, Enzo, Liam, Caio, Yasmin & Cloe makes me happy. Could there be a cuter bunch of people?
More to come…
