A Few Bits & Bobs: Coach Zizou, Video of Yesterday’s Training, Olympic News, Scooby Doo Face And More

30 Jul

It was announced today that Zizou will be working with the academy’s youth teams while he works on his coaching qualification. Can you imagine getting to have Zidane as your coach? Not too intimidating, eh? I bet he’ll be wonderful. I’ve always loved this video of him playing footy with his kids. Look how young they are!

And this great video of him playing in the street with these kids in Algeria while he was on tour.

Here’s a video of Real Madrid training yesterday at UCLA. They have a double session today as well. Pictures and hopefully video from that later.

Here’s some Sergio shots from yesterday as well courtesy of GF Sports.

Arbeloa tweeted a shot with Jese prior to the first training this morning.

And here’s an older shot of Calleti with his doggie Curro, which came via his girlfriend Marta.

The Olympics continues on and the ‘ballers have been posting piccies. First up, Marcelo, then Neymar.

And here are some pictures of frustrated, sad Juanin & David De Gea when Spain was eliminated. Pobrecitos!

Social media use at the Olympics has been a hot topic of discussion, what with Hope Solo’s blow up the other day. However, two Olympians have been expelled from the games for making racist comments on Twitter. Swiss soccer player Michel Morganella was sent home over the freak out he had when the team lost to South Korea. Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou was actually dropped from the team before they left Athens for her remarks on African immigrants.

With the prevalence of social media, why the hell aren’t teams/countries providing guidelines and media training to their athletes? It just boggles the mind.  Today also brought the news that Rio Ferdinand has been cited by the FA for improper conduct for responding to tweet about Ashley Cole.

FIFA announced today that there will be disciplinary action against Colombia’s Lady Andrade for smacking Abby Wambach in the eye and giving her a shiner.

This next part is for watishista forzasusan, who I spent the entire weekend watching footy with. We enjoyed Francesco Totti immensely when we weren’t getting sprayed by beer or fearing that a full scale riot would erupt in the stands in our section at the AS Roma vs. El Salvador game on Friday night.  (When I post pictures, I’ll have to tell you more about it. There were fights and people expelled within the first 4 minutes of the match).

Here’s what we call Totti’s “Scooby Doo Face” – he’s on vacation with his family in Sabaudia.  He deserves a vacation after that match. So do I.

Looking good, Ilary!

And here’s Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Bacary Sagna rocking it out to the Malta Guinness Low Sugar Workout in Lagos, Nigeria where they were making an appearance for Arsenal.

There’s really nothing better that seeing a 6’7″ man shaking his groove thang. Here’s some crappy video of the boys in action.

And they obviously had so much fun that they did the routine again. Love it!

More later!

ZIZOUUUUU! Man, to just pay a game of soccer with him would be so much fun. If they have family reunions, I can only imagine what the game is like then.

    Those Arsenal guys ROCK.

Francesco Totti. Wow. Just wow. Hottie!

I adore Zizou, but I don’t like this move. There’s a long, long, long list of brilliant players who turned into crappy coaches.

In fact, aside from Beckenbauer (natuerlich) I can’t think of a genius player who became a brilliant coach.

It’s what he said he wanted to do when he retired. So he should at least give it a go. Why don’t we just see how he does, eh?
